The Gospel Worth Fighting For

Imagine sitting in a crowded church gathering in the first century.

The room is filled with Jewish believers and Gentile converts sharing a meal together. Conversations flow freely. Laughter fills the room. At the center of the gathering sits Peter—the apostle who walked on water, confessed Jesus as the Messiah, and preached the sermon that launched the New Testament church at Pentecost.

Suddenly, the atmosphere changes.

A group of influential Jewish believers arrives from Jerusalem. Peter glances toward them, then quietly stands up from the Gentile table and moves to eat only with the Jewish believers. Others begin to follow his example. Even Barnabas, Paul's trusted ministry partner, joins them.

The room falls silent.

Then another man rises to his feet.

His name is Paul.

In front of everyone, he confronts Peter publicly.

"If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?" (Galatians 2:14).

Imagine the shock.

Peter was not merely another church member. He was one of Jesus' closest disciples. He had seen the empty tomb. He had witnessed the resurrected Christ. He was one of the most respected leaders in Christianity.
